Driving into work I discovered Burial has a new EP and THAT MAKES ME VERY EXCITED. “Come Down to Us,” from the tail end of this video, ends with a sample talking about imagining a new world that will allow you to gain access to even more worlds previously unimaginable, and that sort of sums up my feelings about Burial in a nutshell. His music creates a soundscape that becomes its own world, one you move around in and explore as each track bleeds into the next, and my brain always feels expanded in reward for its explorations.
Speaking of which, when I heard “Come Down to Us” on Morning Becomes Eclectic on my drive in to work, Jason Bentley rather elegantly faded the track into the beginning of Grimes’ “Genesis,” which gave me one of those musical chills because Grimes is another artist I feel creates these soundscapes. And traveling from “Come Down to Us” to “Genesis” is a rather incredible journey…and if you don’t believe me, give it a listen yourself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FH-q0I1fJY
